Abstract

Brazilian states have faced cyclical fiscal crises since the country's redemocratization, with the last crisis being particularly harsh on some states. To promote the fiscal recovery of these entities, the Federal Government created the Fiscal Recovery Regime. This study analyzes the fiscal situation of Rio de Janeiro from the period before the fiscal crisis of 2017 to the present, examining the impact of resuming payments of the public debt on the provision of services to society.
