The main goal of this research is to study the features of the National State and the substantial democracy, both created by Francisco Campos; as well as to try to classify him into the authoritarian idea’s framework. Therefore, different disciplinary fields were brought together through a literature review of the law, the history of law and the sociology. As a result, it was decided to include Campos within the category of the Brazilian authoritarian thought, along with other theorists who – during the 1920s and 1930s – sought to draw solutions to Brazilian socio-political problems, throughout authoritarian models.
