Gender inequality is present in social practices and women have less access to decision-making scenarios on natural resources, including those related to water policies. Gender inequalities are explicit in access to water, a natural resource and an essential and fundamental human right. The aim of this article is to analyze the challenges faced by women in relation to the right to water and their position in water governance. It is proposed to indicate the international instruments on women and water; to list women's challenges for water; and to expose the participatory and decision-making role of women in the management of water resources. In conclusion, it is essential to expand public water programs and policies that take into account the specific demands of women, as well as to expand spaces that allow for a high level of participation and decision-making by women, in addition to encouraging female leaders in community organizations.
