Abstract
This work analyzes the integration process of South American states from the perspective which Immanuel Wallerstein calls the modern world-system and Aníbal Quijano calls the colonial world-system. The analysis is made considering the dialectic perspective of transformation of the integration model effective in America and adopts as paradigms concrete categories of the capitalist model noted by Karl Marx: the modern state, world market, depreciation of work and concentration of capital. When identifying the prevalence of systemic and antisystemic aspects, this theoretical perspective helps in understanding the success and failure of community integration systems in South America.
Keywords: South American integration; colonial world-system; systemic and anti-systemic categories; subsidiarity principle; utopistics.
