Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The contribution is original and is not being evaluated for publication in another journal. Noncompliance with this affirmative must be justified in Comments for the editor section, in the first step of the submission process.
  • The text follows all standards of style and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author guidelines.
  • The file to be submitted is in Microsoft Word® format and does not exceed 2MB.
  • The identification of authorship of the work was removed from the file and from the Properties option in Microsoft Word®, assuring the secrecy of the review process according to the instructions in the Ensuring a Blind Peer Review section.
  • The article contains abstracts and keywords in the original language and in English.
  • All information of authors - including their institutional affiliations and short biography - are fully registered in the Brazilian Journal of Oil, Gas and Energy Law system. If not, the author must complete the information of all coauthors in the third step of the submission process.

Author Guidelines

Papers must be original and can be submitted in Portuguese, English or Spanish. All papers must comply with these guidelines and must be submitted directly through the electronic submission system of the Brazilian Journal of Oil, Gas and Energy Law.

The responsibility for opinions expressed in signed articles, studies and other contributions rests solely with their authors, and publication does not constitute an endorsement by the Brazilian Journal of Oil, Gas and Energy Law of the opinions expressed in them. The Brazilian Journal of Oil, Gas and Energy Law reserves the right not to publish articles that do not comply with the guidelines.

FORMATTING

Articles should be submitted in Microsoft Word® format, with the following characteristics:

(a) paper size: A4 (210 x 297 mm)

(b) margins (top, bottom, right and left): 2,5 cm

(c) font: Times New Roman

(d) font size: 12

(e) alignment: justified

(f) spacing: (i) between the lines: 1,5; (ii) before: 0 pt; (iii) after: 0 pt

(g) first-line indent: 1,5 cm

Articles must be between ten (10) and thirty (30) pages long, including footnotes, bibliography, charts and illustrations.

Short notices must be between five (5) and ten (10) pages long, including footnotes, bibliography, charts and illustrations.

Throughout the text, it is recommended to avoid the use of resources as underline and bold. The resource italics should be only used for expressions in a foreign language, which shall be entered without quotation marks.

PRESENTATION OF ARTICLE

The text of the article should be preceded by the following items:

(a) title, centered, in capital letters and bold, in the original language of the article and in English;

(b) an abstract of the text, in the original language, in one paragraph, with at least 100 and a maximum of 250 words;

(c) five keywords, separated by a semicolon;

(d) an abstract in English, in a single paragraph, with a minimum of 100 and a maximum of 250 words;

(e) five keywords in English, separated by a semicolon.

Following the pre-textual items, the article must contain the “Introduction” section, which title should be written in bold style without numerical indicator. Next, the text should be divided into sections and subsections and the titles should be written in bold and numbered progressively (1., 2., 3., 3.1., 3.2., 4., etc.). After the development of the text, the author must write the “Final considerations” section, which title should be written in bold without numerical indicator.

References should be presented in alphabetical order at the end of the text in the “Bibliography” item in accordance with the rules set out in these guidelines.

Any diagrams, graphs and tables - when necessary - must have title and source and be placed at the end of the manuscript, after the bibliography.

QUOTATIONS

Small quotes - up to three lines - should be inserted directly in the body of the text, in quotation marks, without italics. Long quotes - over three lines - should be submitted in separate paragraph, indented from the left margin by 4 cm in size 10 font, simple spacing, without quotation marks and not in italic.

 

REFERENCES AND BIBLIOGRAPHY

References should be presented in footnotes with superscript numbers, according to the ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards) standards (NBR-6023). Avoid the use of expressions op. cit., ibid, ibid, et al., among others, in order to simplify the editorial process, always repeating the quote in the complete form.

Footnotes should be displayed with the following formatting:

(a) font: Times New Roman

(b) font size: 10

(c) spacing: (i) between the lines: 1.0 (ii) before: 0 pt (iii) after: 0 pt

(a) books, report

(c) Chapters in collective works

Please note that, unlike footnotes, in the “Bibliography” item, it is not necessary to indicate the pages used. The references to case law and other legislative documents must follow the rules of their respective jurisdictions of origin or of the respective international tribunals.

Articles

This section receives original contributions with in depth critical analysis on the topics of interest to the Brazilian Journal of Oil, Gas and Energy Law. Articles may contain theoretical or empirical approaches and should present results of original research.

Short Notices

This section aims to receive short contributions containing comments on recent legislative framework modifications and changes in the regulatory policy in Brazil and in the world, with relevant impact in the oil, gas and energy industry.

Privacy Statement

The names and other personal data informed in the electronic publication will be solely used for the services provided by the Brazilian Journal of Oil, Gas and Energy Law, and they will not be available for other purposes or to third parties.
