Abstract

Abstract: Science has inestimable value for society, with the duty to be engaged in human emancipation and the eradication of oppression and all forms of discrimination. Scientific practice, however, requires a specific stance in relation to the world and phenomena, that is, it obeys certain assumptions. Contemporary activism, especially identity politics popularized towards the end of the last century, brings a deterministic notion of identity with which it aims to claim a place of knowledge for segregated groups under hegemonic power. The meeting of identity politics with scientific practice is not something simple to conceive and its discussion is important. This is a theoretical study that aims to debate the topic and generate reflections. We sought to discuss the foundations of scientific practice and its critical nature and highlight the characteristics of activism associated with identity politics, especially when it wants to become scientific knowledge, in order to discuss the incompatibilities of this encounter. It is understood that the foundations of identity politics are fruitless and contradictory to the intention of producing scientific knowledge about a cause. By avoiding this adherence, potential encounters may arise between scientific activity and activism.
