Abstract

Although the school has not yet been properly explored for this purpose, recent studies have highlighted the importance of emotional intelligence programs for parents in this environment, aiming to develop emotional skills in the family. Through an emotional intelligence intervention program of 7 weekly sessions, the aim was to verify the effectiveness of social sharing of emotions, mindfulness, and positive emotions in developing parents' emotional skills. The Reconstructing Emotions in Parenting Program used a quasi-experimental research methodology due to the non-randomization of the sample. The convenience sample was collected in person in response to 6 questionnaires, consisting of 62 participants, 36 (58%) belonging to the experimental group and the remainder, 26 (42%) to the control group. 100% of the participants are Portuguese. The results reveal that there was an increase in emotional skills, particularly the ability to deal with emotions. As for family interaction, there was an increase in the authoritative parental style and greater family cohesion. As for parental expectations, there was also an increase in this variable. The benefits derived from the social sharing of emotions also showed greater value.
