Abstract

The purpose of this article is to understand how people who opt to show extreme, extensive or considered corporal marks are seen. To understand the reaction that these type of people provoke among others, commentaries concerning corporal modifications in blogs had been analyzed. All the commentaries was analyzed in blogs that don’t use modified bodies as a main topic. The evidence draw the conclusion that through the act of marking bodies, individuals had gained stigma beyond the epidermis. The individuals with modified bodies are being considered monsters, insane and sick people and, for everything, people of fear and mourning. One of the reasons for repulses seen in the commentaries can be the symbolic subversion that shakes the esthetic organization of the daily world.

Keywords: body modification, stigma, avoidance.
