Abstract

The article investigates the use of organic metaphors on social analysis. I discuss the ideas of three authors and their conceptions of social norms and organic norms. First, I present Comte’s Positivism and his ideia of an identity of organic phenomenon and social phenomenon. Second, I present Canguilhem’s critics of Comte’s reductionist project, and his distinction between the organic phenomenon and social phenomenon. Lastly, I present Dennett’s ideas of rehabilitation of sociobiology and organic metaphor, and his proposal of an account of how social norms evolve in a natural Darwinian world.

Key-words: organism, sociobiology, social nor
