Abstract

This article offers considerations on the importance of cross-cultural psychopathology in Brazil. Some ideas regarding the supposed myth of origin that gave rise to our condition as Brazilians are presented, based on an analysis of the conditions that determined the birth and colonization of Brazil. An analysis of the question of otherness in Brazil makes it possible to articulate autonomy and slavery in different contexts, particularly in their psychic, social, and cultural aspects.

Keywords: Brazilian myth of origin; otherness; autonomy and slavery
