ABSTRACT
In Latin America and the Caribbean it would seem like an indulgent interpretation of external action of the European Union (EU) is spreading with success. Traditional researches revolve around the EU as a model for Latin American and Caribbean experiences or around the EU as a source of cooperation and aid to the region. This article presents characteristics and debates about the global actor EU with the goal of suggesting critical analyzes and new fields of research about the policies and actions form the EU in Latin America and the Caribbean. Based on a bibliographical selection, three topics are outlined about the EU’s relations, actions and politics: resolution of conflicts, multilateralism and civilian power.
