Em seu mais recente livro, traduzido e publicado no Brasil, Porque os líderes mentem? Toda a verdade sobre as mentiras na política internacional (Rio de Janeiro: Zahar, 2012, 179p.), Mearsheimer discute a mentira como uma ferramenta de política internacional para os tomadores de decisão. O argumento central de Mearsheimer é que líderes frequentemente mentem por “boas razões estratégicas”, o que os isentaria de qualquer condenação por parte da opinião pública ou da comunidade internacional.
ABSTRACTS
In his latest book translated and published in Brazil, Why Leaders Lie, The Truth About Lying in International Politics (Rio de Janeiro: Zahar, 2012, 179p.), Mearsheimer discusses lying as an international policy tool used by decision makers. The author’s central argument is that leaders often lie for “good strategic reasons”, which exempts them from censure by public opinion or the international community.
