Neste artigo abordaremos o papel do Atlântico Sul como ponto relevante da agenda de Defesa do Brasil. Nesse sentido, iniciamos uma breve reflexão sobre a importância dos mares para as nações em seus aspectos econômicos e estratégico-militares. Em seguida vamos analisar as especificidades do Atlântico Sul e a política de segurança que o Brasil tem desenvolvido, assim como a diplomacia e cooperação com os países africanos também banhados pelo Atlântico Sul.
ABSTRACT
In this article we address the role of the South Atlantic as a significant element in Brazil’s defence agenda. It begins with a brief reflection on the economic, military and strategic importance of seas to nations. We then analyse the specific nature of the South Atlantic and the security policy Brazil has developed, as well as its diplomatic and cooperation efforts with African countries which also border this ocean.
