ABSTRACT
Active learning happens when the student engages with the content, through activities that stimulate critical reflection and allow the development of skills and abilities, according to the lesson’s goals. Among several instruments, teaching cases are presented as a possibility. Based on the case of the UN Global Compact, presented by Milani and Tude (2015), we have elaborated a dynamic that integrates two activities: the construction of a teaching case and the analysis of a case study, from the theoretical application. In addition to stimulating the investigation of concrete political problems, we have observed that the process of case construction, by the students themselves, has facilitated the application of the proposed theory, in a second moment. This means a major advance in the use of active tools, since understanding International Relations Theories is a complex task, due to its abstract nature. Finally, we argue that these dynamics can be used as didactic platforms for different disciplines.
Keywords: teaching cases; active learning; study cases; international relations theories.
