Calling for the dossier "The Cultural Dimension of International Relations":
Call and Contextualization for the Dossier "The Cultural Dimension of International Relations":
The cultural dimension in International Relations, although widely explored abroad, has long been underappreciated in Brazil. However, in recent years, we have observed a significant increase in interest in this area, reflected in numerous analyses on topics such as soft power, cultural diplomacy, and the influence of contemporary cultural manifestations, including pop music, books, films, soap operas, series, games, idols, fandoms, memes, among many others.
This growing interest has emerged both in academic publications and in educational spaces, with the creation of courses that address the interactions between culture and International Relations. Nevertheless, the curricula of higher education institutions in Brazil remain largely focused on traditional disciplines, leaving important gaps in the education of students regarding cultural dynamics.
In this context, this dossier seeks to comprehensively address the cultural dimension in International Relations, exploring its multiple facets and theoretical approaches. Our goal is to provide a platform for reflections that integrate different perspectives and broaden the understanding of the role of cultures, media, and technologies in shaping contemporary international relations.
The proposal is to foster diverse research, promoting the exchange of ideas and recognizing the various ways in which culture interacts with, reflects, and influences global politics. We invite contributions that explore the cultural dimension in its various manifestations, encouraging dialogue between different schools of thought and promoting a richer, multifaceted understanding of International Relations.
