ABSTRACT
Over the past few years, Brazil and Venezuela have developed a kind of bilateral relationship marked by strong political dialogue, increased commercial flows, the expansion of portfolios of common projects, and the appreciation of the frontier area. They have further anchored this historical process of closer proximity in a shared sense of the importance of turning their bilateral relationship into an international partnership. However, they have had to overcome old resentments which long fed a reluctance to establish joint agreements and projects. It might be said that as time has passed, a reluctant partnership has been forged between Brazil and Venezuela in the ambit of regional South American and world politics.
