ABSTRACT
This article investigates the performance of the two BRIC countries that weathered the 2007-2009 international crisis most successfully – Brazil and China – and the economic and political elements that underpin their growth. In the economic dimension, the greater stability of the macroeconomic regime and the reduced level of leverage in the financial system enable a more balanced approach to the regulation of the financial markets. In politics, states like these have sought to develop rules, standards and procedures that satisfy their goals for development and the expansion of their autonomy and participation.
