Este artigo tem como objetivo central entender e analisar qual o papel desempenhado pela agenda participativa no âmbito da ASEAN, com análise detida em torno de dois mecanismos: a ASEAN People’s Assembly (APA) e ASEAN Civil Society Conference (ACSC). Para atingir este objetivo, a metodologia empregada é o Estudo de Caso, e como técnicas de pesquisa, recorremos à análise documental, análise de conteúdo e revisão bibliográfica da literatura especializada. Pudemos verificar que apesar de uma crescente preocupação retórica em relação à participação da sociedade civil no pós-crise financeira asiática de 1997, o regionalismo do Sudeste Asiático conta com uma série de desafios em relação à agenda participativa, como uma baixa institucionalização de instrumentos participativos, regras rígidas para a participação e oposição de países autoritários em relação à possibilidade de uma maior interlocução entre os atores governamentais e os não-estatais.
