Abstract

Interview. Jamila Lyiscott is an educator, spoken word poet, and scholar whose work focuses on racial equity, youth activism, and the power of hip-hop and spoken word in education. She is Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and is widely known for her TED Talk “3 Ways to Speak English,” which challenges traditional ideas about “proper” English.

Marcela Santos Brigida, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ)

Professora de Literatura Inglesa na Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), onde coordena os projetos “Literatura Inglesa Brasil” (extensão) e “Literatura, performance e justiça social” (EIC). É líder do grupo de pesquisa Narrar o Agora (NOA). Sua pesquisa concentra-se nas adaptações e apropriações da ficção vitoriana em obras do século XXI e na produção e cir-culação de narrativas no contemporâneo.

Jamila Lyiscott, University of Massachusetts Amherst

Associate Professor de Educação para a Justiça Social na University of Massachusetts Amherst, onde é cofundadora e codiretora do Center of Racial Justice and Youth Engaged Research. É também coeditora-chefe da prestigiada revista acadêmica Equity & Excellence in Education. Sua pesquisa, desenvolvida em estreita colaboração com comunidades, concentra-se na equidade racial, no ativismo juvenil e no poder do hip-hop e do spoken word na educação. É autora do livro Black Appetite. White Food: Issues of Race, Voice, and Justice Within and Beyond the Class-room (2019).
