This article examines cultural translation as a pedagogical practice in the teaching of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PFL), emphasizing its interfaces with interculturality and decolonial perspectives. Drawing on Amazonian orality, it argues that translation, when guided by a translational ethics, not only mediates meaning between languages but also produces shifts in ways of understanding the world by bringing different cosmologies into tension. The study mobilizes contributions from Antoine Berman (2013) and Lawrence Venuti (2008) to analyze how translational choices reveal the tension between domestication and foreignization, making visible the ethical and political dimensions of translation. The qualitative methodology is based on a case study conducted in a PFL course at UNIFAP, in which seven students translated Amazonian oral narratives through interlingual and intersemiotic activities, following the typology proposed by Roman Jakobson (2000). The findings indicate that participants developed linguistic and intercultural awareness by confronting categories with no direct equivalence, using translation as a space for reflecting on language, culture, and knowledge. The study concludes that cultural translation can function as a central formative practice in PFL teaching, especially in contexts marked by the presence of migrant students, by articulating language learning, intercultural listening, and the recognition of epistemic plurality.
