Abstract

Systemics Functional Grammar (SFG) has been used to address issues of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) in extensive research, however the aim of this article is to analyze how instances of a specific genre, the recipe, may present different functional features, as well as discuss how TEFL may use the genre in their work with learners. The paper presents a summary of the relevant theoretical aspects on the three Meta Functions in SFG by Halliday, examining the features of the texts in the light of these concepts; the result is a reflection on how these functional features may be used in TEFL.

Sabrina Bonqueves Fadanelli, Universidade de Caxias do Sul

Graduação em Licenciatura Plena em Letras - Português / Inglês pela Universidade de Caxias do Sul (2004). Especialização em Ensino e Aprendizagem de Língua Inglesa pela Universidade de Caxias do Sul (2007). Concluiu em 2011 um Mestrado em Linguística Aplicada pela Universidade de Birmingham na Inglaterra, reconhecido e validado nacionalmente em 2014 pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Possui experiência na área de Letras e Linguística, tendo trabalhado como professora em países como Itália e Inglaterra. Ingressou em 2013 no programa de doutorado em Teorias Linguísticas do Léxico da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul,finalizado em Junho de 2017. Atualmente é professora concursada na Universidade de Caxias do Sul, membro permanente do corpo docente do PPG Letras e Cultura da Universidade de Caxias do Sul. Seus interesses de pesquisa envolvem a abordagem lexical, a gramática sistêmico-funcional, o ensino de línguas estrangeiras, e a Linguística de Corpus e a Terminografia Didático Pedagógica como metodologias de auxílio à leitura de textos técnico-científicos em Inglês.
