In this paper, we investigate the attenuation construction with dar uma V-da (give a/an deverbal noun). Our aim is to discuss semantic and interactional aspects involved in instances of this construction. Our theoretical support is the Usage-based Functional Linguistics (FURTADO DA CUNHA et al., 2013) and this research is quali-quantitative. Our data is composed by written texts published on blogs. We found that the base verbs of the nominalization in -da are action (most frequent), action-process and process. In aspectual terms, the events designated by the constructs convey activity, accomplishment and achievement. Finally, we found that the (inter)subjective and pragmatic inference processes contribute to the attenuation meaning the construction conveys.Downloads
