Jhumpa Lahiri (2015), In Altre Parole, discusses her journey towards learning Italian, relating this learning to “crossing a small lake”. This article, based on the translation of this work into English – In Other Words (2017a) –, aims to dialogue with reflections of Lahiri on language learning, identity and translation, themes alluded in this work. Considering that this writer, born in Great Britain, wrote this work in Italian, the article also addresses her exophonic writing. This study, therefore, is guided by scholars, who deal with these themes, such as Almeida Filho (2013), Chantal Wright (2013) and Stuart Hall (2011).Downloads
