Abstract

In João Almino’s novel The Five Seasons of Love, the construction of prose accompanies the material construction of modernity. Characters must find and re-define themselves in a space of strangeness and estrangement. Their stories are allegories of transformation in a place without history.

Kenneth David Jackson, Yale University

Professor de literatura luso-brasileira na Universidade de Yale. Completou o doutorado com Jorge de Sena na Universidade de Wisconsin em 1973. Entre os seus livros: Machado de Assis: A Literary Life (Yale, 2015), Adverse Genres in Fernando Pessoa (Oxford, 2010), Oxford Anthology of the Brazilian Short Story (Oxford, 2006), A Vanguarda Literária no Brasil (Vervuert, 1998). É co-tradutor de dois romances brasileiros para o inglês, Industrial Park (1993), de Patrícia Galvão, e Seraphim Grosse Pointe (1979), de Oswald de Andrade. Pesquisou na Índia e no Sri Lanka, foi professor da Fulbright no Brasil e atuou nos EUA como violoncelista em várias orquestras profissionais e num quarteto de cordas.
