From magic to Kant: Goethe’s relation to philosophy

The discussions concerning the central figure of 18th-century German literature, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, configure a dynamic complex of ideas, inaugurating a new era in German intellectual life. Taking advantage of this feature, this paper tries to highlight the philosophical readings that guided the German poet in the development of his dialogical relation with the thought of his time in order to build his own way of seeing the world.
