Abstract

This paper presents and briefly discusses the critical work of Othon Moacyr Garcia, one of the precursors of so called Stylistic Analysis in Brazil. Besides proceeding to a brief historical overview of the arrival of New Criticism in Brazil, we will try to demonstrate, through the summary of two of his pioneering works, the analytical method undertaken by the author.
