THE 'SELF' AND 'THE BOOK OF DISQUIET': REFLECTIONS ON AUGUSTO DOS ANJOS AND FERNANDO PESSOA
Keywords:
modernity, subjectivity, tragic sense.Abstract
This essay examines the poetry of Augusto dos Anjos through the concept of “fiction of disquiet”, borrowed from Fernando Pessoa, understood as a melancholic result from the modern tension between the construction of the ego and his intimacy, and the tragic sense of existence in the Western art. In the works of the poet from Paraíba, the “disquiet”, rather than a theme, consists of an artistic procedure that recovers the tune of Greek cosmogonies, without finding the comfort of the catharsis, though.
