Abstract

This work aims to discuss the contribution of scientific research to the teaching of Portuguese. We analyze 14 textbooks of Portuguese used in primary and highschool and show how they describe the personal pronouns. Based on research results, we discuss some problems identified in textbooks: (i) the news pronouns você (you.SG.NOM), vocês (you.PL.NOM) and a gente “the folks” (we.PL.NOM) used in Brazilian Portuguese are not included in the in the list of personal pronouns; (ii) the correlation between the two forms of address tu (you.2nd person.SG) and você (you.3rd person.SG) is condemned by the authors and considered negatively as “mixing address forms”.

Célia Regina dos Santos Lopes, UFRJ/CNPq

Professora-Associada na Faculdade de Letras da UFRJ, onde se doutorou em 1999 e atua desde 1994. Coordenou o Programa de Pós graduação em Letras Vernáculas de 2005- 2007. Participa do Projeto Integrado Para uma História do Português Brasileiro desde 1999. Em 2003, publicou sua tese de Doutorado: A inserção de a gente no quadro pronominal do português: percurso histórico na Iberoamericana/Vervuert, em Frankfurt/Madri. Em 2005, organizou o livro A Norma Brasileira em Construção: fatos lingüísticos em cartas pessoais do século XIX com verba FAPERJ/UFRJ. Em 2006 editou, junto com Guiomar Ciapuscio, Dorothee Kaiser, Konstanze Jungbluth, o livro Sincronia y diacronía: de tradiciones discursivas en Latinoamérica pela Vervuert/Bibliotehca Ibero-Americana, Frankfurt/ Madrid. Coordenou o Projeto Laboratório de História do Português Brasileiro, financiado pelo CNPq. É bolsista de produtividade do CNPq desde 2006.
