Abstract

An immeasurable legacy to the regions that host major sporting events is the creation of business start-ups based on technology-innovation-oriented, focusing on the productive sector of the sport. These are indicators of local economic and social development.
These  firms produce knowledge of the sport area through the interaction between university-industry- government and are linked to all areas of knowledge (health sciences, life sciences, applied social sciences, engineering, humanities, linguistics, literature and arts;  earth sciences, mathematics, agricultural sciences and others). These knowledge-based firms are linked to research and development of innovative ideas and usually located in incubators.
Business start ups firms should seek, through interaction university-industry-government, the production of knowledge required for business success. For this to happen, universities must be alert to opportunities for innovation in the sport and encouraging professors and students  to create organizational structures academic to develop activities of teaching research and to economic development  focused on innovation in sport. Academic structures cited are: incubators, junior companies, centers of technological innovation, technology transfer offices, laboratories of innovation and entrepreneurship, research groups "quasi firms" and laboratories for prototyping, among others. The government should, through agencies promotion, launch programs holistic inducing innovation in small technology-based firms (Etzkowitz, 2008). This article is about the importace of to innovate in sport area, nowadays in Brazil (because of the sport events that are occuring in the country) and also shows some examples of star ups firms, çocated in incubators that are working in sport area.
