CORPO E CUIDADO: UMA BREVE TRAJETÓRIA / BODY AND CARE: A BRIEF HISTORY

Resumo

Este estudo visa a analisar, numa breve trajetória histórica, a construção de cuidado com o corpo no Ocidente. De modo teórico-conceitual, reflete sobre obras de autores da Filosofia e da Saúde. As concepções modernas de corpo têm raízes na Grécia Antiga, com o respeito ao cidadão grego, que prezava o equilíbrio entre alma e corpo. O advento do capitalismo trouxe maior impulso à individuação do corpo. O autocontrole corporal era condição para a civilidade e adequação às leis, regras e normas sociais vigentes. O corpo deveria ser útil economicamente e dócil politicamente, o que motivou recomendações nutricionais preventivistas que priorizam um enfoque racional. Atualmente, o campo da Alimentação e Nutrição está emergindo de forma a ampliar suas concepções sobre corpo e alimentação, as quais resgatam significados do cuidado ao corpo na memória coletiva nessa trajetória.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to examine, through a brief historical background, the construction of body care in the West. In a theoretical and conceptual way, it reflects on the works of Philosophy and Health authors. Modern concepts of the body have roots in ancient Greece, with the respect for the Greek citizen, who valued the balance between body and soul. The advent of capitalism brought greater impulse to the individuation of the body. Bodily self-control was the condition for civility and complying with the laws, rules and social norms in force. The body should be economically useful and politically docile, which led to preventative dietary recommendations that emphasize a rational approach. Currently, the field of Food and Nutrition is emerging in order to expand their conceptions about body and food, which rescue bodily care in the collective memory along this trajectory.
