REVISITANDO AS SUPERFÍCIES DE APLAINAMENTO: NOVOS ENFOQUES E IMPLICAÇÕES PARA A GEOMORFOLOGIA GEOGRÁFICA

Superfícies topográficas de morfologia plana e com topos a altitudes concordantes constituem uma fisionomia conspícua do relevo continental das margens passivas. O desenvolvimento dessas formas através do tempo, como produto da denudação, tem sido um objeto de indagação de destaque para ciência geomorfológica, seja para reafirmar a base conceitual dos sistemas teórico-dedutivos que fundamentaram a disciplina desde o seu nascedouro, ou para abrir espaço à aplicação e testagem de novos métodos que confiram um lastro empírico mais robusto à interpretação dos problemas de geomorfologia histórico-evolutiva. Ao longo das últimas décadas, o surgimento de um arcabouço metodológico em bases experimentais e intermediado pela instrumentação sofisticada tem aberto novas frentes de investigação sobre a origem das superfícies aplainadas, redefinindo de forma decisiva a maneira como as mesmas podem ser utilizadas como instrumento para interpretação da evolução do modelado. Este trabalho busca apresentar enfoques que apontem para caminhos e linhas de investigação em bases contemporâneas, trazendo exemplos de aplicações à Província Borborema, Nordeste do Brasil, para a origem do relevo em contextos plataformais. Por fim, sugere-se que o estudo das superfícies geomórficas necessita ser revisto de modo que essas formas sejam compreendidas, para além da erosão, como produtos da expressão mais externa da crosta, em constante transformação e altamente dependentes dos contextos geodinâmicos regionais.
