Abstract

The objective is to analyze the growth of permanent and temporary crops in the biomes of Piauí, pointing out the changes that these crops cause in the vegetation cover of the land, aiming to indicate the most harmful agricultural uses to the ecosystem. To this end, data from the Municipal Agricultural Survey and the satellite images of the MapBiomas project. The results revealed that the permanent plantations practically did not alter the natural cover. Savannas were the most suppressed type of cover. In the Caatinga, the main changes resulted from the use of land for pastures. In the Cerrado, temporary plantations caused the biggest transitions, especially soy. Thus, it is suggested that there is an intensification in the monitoring of soybean growth, as well as the development of more detailed studies on this expansion.
