ENVIRONMENTAL CHARACTERIZATION OF WIDE AREA STUDY OF MORRO GAÚCHO, IN ARROIO DO MEIO AND CAPITÃO/RS, AIMED TO CREATION A CONSERVATIOS UNITY

In 2002 and 2010 tried to create a Conservation Unity (CU) in Morro Gaúcho, located between the cities of Arroio do Meio and Capitão (RS). However, one of the obstacles that the proposals did not have success was the lack of basic environmental information on the study area, a fact that hindered the understanding of CU proposal and left no doubt about the category and ideals boundaries of the area to be protected. Thus, this research aimed to carry out an environmental characterization of wide area Morro Gaúcho study as a way to support and strengthen the process of creating the CU. In the characterization, were evaluated physical attributes (altitude, slope and water resources), biological attributes (permanent preservation areas - APPs) and man-made attributes (land use and occupation and legal status of APPs) of the landscape. Thus, in addition to providing these environmental information, it is also expected that CU is environmentally planned, so that the environmental attributes are properly protected with the creation of this space.
