THE PHENOMENON OF SECOND RESIDENCE AS ONE OF THE INDUCTORS OF THE URBAN EXPANSION OF THE METROPOLIS IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBALOZATION: AN ANALYSIS ABOUT RIO DE JANEIRO

Abstract

This article tries to analyze the phenomenon of second residence as one of the inducers of the expansion of the urbanization in peripheral area of the metropolis. It will approach classic models and processes of this phenomenon and its adaptation to the globalized world. The article is structured in parts. The first will address some conceptual considerations about the second residence as a factor of urban expansion of the metropolis. The second part analyzes the classic models and processes of second residence in the geographical space. The reflections raised by this article pointed out that the metropolitan geographic space underwent socioeconomic changes that culminated the expansion of the urbanization of several metropolis in Brazil and in the world.
