Abstract

The aim is to characterize and relate the organization of the Brazilian and Argentinean federations, highlighting the institutional functions, the political power over the territory and the reflections of such scenario in the organization of the urban networks of each country. In the sequence, a case study is presented, highlighting the organization and qualification of the secondary metropolis, as centers of economic and territorial articulation, of relevance in their national contexts, particularized in the analytical and comparative study between the cities of Curitiba (BR) and Tucumán (AR), presenting, finally, characteristics of the secondary metropolises and the relevance of the knowledge about the cities in this category.
