Abstract

The objective of this study was to calibrate and validate the IPH II model for the estimation of daily streamflows in a subbasin of the Pomba river and check your accuracy in simulating extreme events, in order to obtain information for planning and management of water resources, in addition to the prediction and mitigation of flood events in basin. The Sub-basin selected had the measuring station of streamflow "Guarani" as control section, which drains an area of 1,650 km2, located in the State of Minas Gerais. Precipitation and reference evapotranspiration data, required as entry data on IPH II model, were obtained through Thiessen and Hargreaves-Samani methods, respectively. The calibration of model was performed automatically using the Shuffled Complex Evolution (SCE-UA) algorithm which made possible the estimation of model parameters quickly and efficiently. The results obtained with the use of the IPH II model showed that the estimates of daily streamflows were appropriate and good, including the maximum and minimum annual daily and also the minimum for grants, which leads to the conclusion that the model has the potential to be used in the management of water resources, in forecast of flood events and mitigation of their effects as well as for consistency analysis and filling in gaps in the data flow.
