Abstract

Spatial differentiation is one of the main themes of Geography, present in all the long and contradictory development of his thought, under various philosophical perspectives. Treated often superficially, the idea of differentiation can serve as enriching element of the meaning of many geographical concepts and categories. From a critical perspective and a brief literature review, the aim of this paper is to discuss the process of spatial differentiation in contemporary cities, especially in cities located on the periphery of capitalism, where the appropriations of space conflicts is hard.

Graduado em Geografia (2010), Mestre em Desenvolvimento Urbano (2013) e Doutorando em Desenvolvimento Urbano pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE).
