ANALYSIS OF THE PASTURE DYNAMICS IN THE PANTANAL CACERES / MT

This study aims to conduct the spatiotemporal analysis of the expansion of exotic pasture areas in the Pantanal of Cáceres-Mato Grosso, Brazil. We processed images from Landsat 5 satellite and Landsat 8 of the last 21 years in Spring and ArcGIS software. Six thematic classes were defined: Natural Forest Vegetation, Forested Savannah + Grassy-Woody Savannah, Body of Water, Pasture, Forest Fire and Anthropogenic uses. The results showed that the natural vegetation was removed in 32.95% during the last 21 years, while areas of pastures increased, occupying 33.85% of the study area, the Forest Fire class had a significant prominence in 1999, with 8.54%. Body of Water class presented a greater extent in 2014, with 14.84%, and anthropogenic uses class increased by 33.99% in the last period studied. The results showed that the development of human activities threaten the natural balance of the region, among them, the suppression of Natural Forest Vegetation to crop pastures with introduction of exotic forage species to increase productivity.
