Fool around, Citizenship and Violence: Images of the territoriality of the LGBT population of Rio de Janeiro

Abstract

This paper presents partial results of research conducted between and , with a focus group of LGBT people, residing in Rio de Janeiro, through interviews and subjective maps, according to the subjective categories “fear”, “comfort/warmth” and “security”. The results were compared with a research conducted in , with teenagers from Madureira neighborhood, where there are weekly meetings of LGBT people. Was drawn up a short statement of subjective territoriality of LGBT people in relation to the expression of sexuality - related to their basic rights of citizenship, in general, denied or object of hostilities - and their fears in relation to urban violence, compounded by discrimination and homophobia.
