Abstract

The objective is to analyze and make a historical journey about Floresta do Camboatá. This challenge results from our hypothesis that observes a conflict between different public and private agents. This investigation allowed us to retrace this process that allowed us to see the main facts that precede or present conflict between the interests of international corporations associated with the transformation of Floresta in the autodrome and in the network of cities leading directly to the city.Around enclaves such as Rio de Janeiro, the expansion of agricultural activities and urban growth has been advancing over the forests since the times of Portuguese colonization. Thus, the Atlantic Forest was restricted to the most remote and elevated points, while its lowland variant – which has flooded areas and differentiated plant and animal species – was practically exterminated. The last remnant of lowland rain forests in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro is the Camboatá Forest. Through a brief historical research, going back in time until reaching the 16th century, our analysis intends to investigate the different spatial forms and social configurations that developed in the territory of the Camboatá Forest. A forest that in recent years has survived a new undertaking, the attempt to build a race track that would entail its deforestation, repelled by social resistance engaged in its protection.
