Abstract

The essay discusses the need to overcome the idea of seamlessness as a design virtue and propose approaches that question design activity. It is suggested to encourage other design patterns, such as design humanism, which considers different mentalities and user contexts. Case studies are presented that exemplify seamful interventions into seamlessness and vice versa. The essay highlights the importance of balancing these approaches, both primarily studied in separate ways, and proposes critical reflections on the role of design in the world.
