"Come if you are a man": the principle of masculinity in orgies between men
Keywords:
gender, sexuality, masculinity, intersectionality, hierarchyAbstract
In this article, I present a reflection on masculinity thought and gestated among the participants of orgy parties for men in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Based on field data from an ethnographic research that I developed by accompanying the organization and realization of these events, it was possible to perceive the elaboration of certain "principles" that give content and expression to these parties. The first one is masculinity. Only men, and a certain type of man, can participate in these events. It is about this "male" figure, its practices, its construction in this context, its paradoxes and tensions with other elements, which I intend to address in this article. I try both to present the production of what they call the "Spartan character" and to problematize different forms of "inhabit the norm" presented in these contexts.
