Overcoming intimate partner violence: a review
Keywords:
intimate partner violence, gender violence, divorce, overcoming, copingAbstract
Research on intimate partner violence usually does not focus on what happens when the relationship ends. This article presents a narrative review through a systematic research with the objective of understanding the significance of overcoming violence, and how people who decide to leave a violent relationship manage to leave violence behind. The selected papers present different outputs of a violent relationship, which include ending the relationship, denouncing to authorities, dying at the hands of the perpetrator, killing the partner or committing suicide. These alternatives can end the violence or allow it to continue and even get worse. As a conclusion a definition of overcoming intimate partner violence is proposed.Downloads
