Abstract

Dreams are a vital part of the worldview of the Krahô people. The understanding of dreams guides life through a practice in which the dream existence is discussed collectively to elucidate its messages. Martin Heidegger’s phenomenology enables a dialogue with this collective understanding of dreams by pointing to the Dasein’s being-with character. However, it is still necessary to understand whether this dimension was considered by Daseinsanalysts when formulating their analyses of dream existence. This article aims to explore whether there are any proposals within Daseinsanalysis that allow dreams to be understood as collective phenomena. The perspectives examined are those of Ludwig Binswanger, Medard Boss, and Alice Holzhey-Kunz, as they are key authors due to their innovative contributions to the field of Daseinsanalysis. It was found that Binswanger and Holzhey-Kunz consider dream existence as a form of private being, which contrasts with the view of the Krahô people. Boss, however, sees the dreamer as being-in-the-world, which opens up the possibility for reflection on the shared nature of dreams, although this was not specifically addressed by the author. This study points to the need to revisit dream analysis proposals to consider whether they allow for a dialogue with worldviews present in historically marginalized peoples and groups. In this way, the horizons of clinical practice can be expanded, making it more sensitive to different modes of existence.
