Abstract

The strong wind of tourism blows on the sand of the literary coast. Bathed in the waters of literature, this social phenomenon exudes the scent of creative power. There is a lack of connecting bridges. There remains plenty of inspiration. Given this scenario, a set of considerations and approximations between tourism and literature are presented, having as a backdrop the work of Jorge Amado, including his contribution to this debate, bequeathed through his tour guide book. Aiming to contribute to the  consolidation of the tourism-literature bridge, the article includes a bibliographic and documentary review and interviews with key subjects. It appears that the construction of emancipatory tourist praxis is strengthened by Amado’s notes on the phenomenon, as well as that the organization of visits based on literary references can benefit from approaching tourism as a social phenomenon.
