The Environmentally Sensitive Areas to Desertification (ESAD) are regions characterized by severe degradation caused by both human actions and climatic factors. This sensitivity results in soil and vegetation degradation, often making the recovery of these areas a complex challenge, accompanied by significant social, economic, and environmental costs (MMA, 2007). Thus, this study aims to understand the distribution of Environmentally Sensitive Areas to Desertification in the Bahian segment of the Sub-Middle São Francisco. The methodology used was based on bibliographic reviews regarding ESAD and its variables within the Sub-Middle São Francisco, as well as through georeferencing and integrating data obtained from the IBGE (2021), MapBiomas (2021), and ANA (2022) platforms in a Geographic Information System (GIS) environment, using the QGIS software. Consequently, the results achieved will enable the development of more detailed research and the implementation of public policies to mitigate the desertification process.
