The Urban Green Space (UGS) generate benefits to population. Therefore, to understand its distribution in Rio Grande – RS, the Social Well-Being Index (SWBI) was constructed. It considers the number of residents of a locality, the number of the UGS and their typology. With identification of the UGS, it is possible to calculate one closest to an urban census tract and number of people closest to each one. Also, the Green Areas Index (GAI) was calculated, ratio between m² of UGS in locality and resident population. Differently, the SWBI is product between the GAI and the sum of the amount of UGS of a certain type, multiplied by its respective weight, defined between 1 and 5, in order of: area without attractions, with attractions, sports, square and mixed. Thus, it was found that the UGS closest to residents is less distant from 9,780 people and square is type that is least distant. From the SWBI, localities lacking UGS were identified and alson number of inhabitants served by each one. In addition, to recognizing the UGS that should be a priority of public management, since most locations have a lower GAI than that recommended by the World Health Organization.
