Abstract

Systems analysis allows us to assess the interactions between human activities and their effects on nature, social and economic aspects. To assess the impacts of a petrochemical terminal, an environmental situation model is used that considers the region as a system composed of several interconnected subsystems. This approach simplifies and abstracts reality, identifying key elements. A matrix is used to identify and classify the environmental impacts of each sector of the project, dividing them into positive and negative. The study included the consequences in a table, separating the positive and negative ones, and analyzing the relationship between each sector and its consequences. The analysis verifies the importance of two impacts, both positive and negative, and calculates the interaction index for each subsystem, classifying the impacts and recommending alternatives or measures. In this way, the environmental impact assessment of a petrochemical terminal identifies the possible effects of the project and proposes mitigating and alternative measures to minimize environmental impacts and promote sustainable development.
