Abstract

The imminent risks to which mining tailings dams expose societies and the environment are increasingly attracting the attention of the scientific community. Among the sciences with scope for analyzing, understanding and mitigating these risks, there is geographic science, which has always been concerned with the relationship between man and environment. This text aims to address how geography can and has contributed to the prevention, prediction and mitigation of risks related to mining tailings dams.
