Teaching hospitals (THs) are care, teaching, research, and extension establishments, being fundamental for the training of manpower in the health area in Brazil. This narrative and bibliometric review evaluate the production of scientific articles on Healthcare Waste Management in THs in Brazil. A search was carried out for scientific articles published between 2005 and 2021 in the main databases related to the area. A sample of 19 articles was obtained, mostly produced in public institutions located in the Southeast region, showing regional disparities in production on the subject. Among the challenges presented, the following stand out: lack of training, poor working conditions for professionals, and the lack of structured logistics for waste. The low number of articles resulting from the search added to the absence of publications in some years suggests a discontinuity in the production on the subject. It was concluded that THs, as they are linked to Higher Education Institutions, have the right environment for the development of new management technologies, bringing even more contributions to society.
